The Manager, New Store Planning leads the New Store team to develop and manage the execution of New Store planning initiatives and processes. This role will drive and elevate the New Store Merchandise Planning process. The manager is responsible for identifying opportunities to optimize store performance for the entire group of new stores based on review of sales and inventory productivity, regional product penetration all with focus on meeting new store objectives. This associate manages the hand-off of each new store for successful transition to the appropriate partners. The Manager, New Store Planning works closely with New Store Planning leadership, Real Estate, Inventory Control, Supply Chain and Marketing to align, ideate, develop, and execute new store strategies, as well as assess and implement improvement opportunities, and mitigate risks.
New Store Opening & Maintenance
Lead the New Store Team on buildout of sales and inventory plans
Oversee New Store Planning process (e.g., validate store lists, classification eligibilities etc.) and direct New Store Associates to analyze and provide research in support of New Store execution including localized assortment plans
Review New Store floor plans to align build with merchandising strategy and escalate issues as needed
Own analysis of sales, inventory, regional strategy execution and optimizes strategies for the benefit of the department
Review flow of goods in the Supply Chain and partner with Supply Chain and Store Operations, and Field Management to remediate any issues
Manage relocation holding store inventory clean up with Inventory Control
Monitor forecasts and direct team to react with swiftness to optimize/right size sales and inventory plans to proper levels
Manage in-depth post-opening analysis comparing sales performance to underwriting plan and develop recommendations to mitigate risk to Grand opening sales and inventory
Relationship Management, Leadership and Collaboration
Communicate and collaborates with leadership to resolve issues identified through standard and ad-hoc analysis provided by New Store Analysts
Partner with functions/departments across the organization as needed to conduct special projects
Partner with Director, VP of Planning Localization and VPs of Merchandise Planning to ensure the team executes flow strategies that put the customer first
Work with Store Operations and Field partners to capture relevant insights about specific stores and locations
Understand strategic test initiatives (from strategy team) being conducted at individual stores to account for any abnormalities in store performance history and upcoming initiatives that may impact the future
Own identification of inventory/merchandising issues affecting New Stores pre/post open and collaborates with Field Organization, Planning and Allocation and Merchandising to resolve and/or minimize risk
Data Management & Reporting
Direct development of necessary reporting on inventory management in stores to track performance with a bias towards highlighting issues/risk that generate action from cross-functional teams
Conduct ad-hoc reporting related to Total Store as directed by VPs
Responsible for standardizing forms, summaries, and reports for the Total Store team
Our Candidate will have a Bachelor Degree preferably in an analytical discipline a Graduate degree is a plus with experience of 7-10 years of Merchandise Planning experience at a major retailer; 2-3 years of New Store Planning/execution experience in retail environment and 2-3 years of leadership experience.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using Excel (advanced skills required; Visual Basic macros is a plus)
Proficiency with retail business metrics and reporting software suites (MicroStrategy, Microsoft Access etc.)
Strong desire to learn new tools/technologies and drive for continuous improvement
Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and to plan and implement effective solutions
Ability to communicate effectively and succinctly with a bias towards results-oriented communication
Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, often ambiguous, and fast-paced environment while staying organized and detail-oriented
