Overview

Position Summary

The primary role of the Project Manager - Shortage Control is to protect company assets and reduce inventory shortage by managing and implementing merchandise protection strategies. The Project Manager - Shortage Control will work alongside the Shortage Control team to utilize physical inventory results and create or fine-tune strategies to mitigate shortage risks by ensuring EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) devices and resources are strategized, planned, and fulfilled. The role will develop and execute a cohesive merchandise protection strategy to drive improvement in shortage results, and they will support EAS tagging optimization initiatives. The Project Manager - Shortage Control is empowered to develop and lead new merchandise protection initiatives by generating and identifying innovative ideas and solutions to protect our merchandise via emerging technologies and by staying ahead of industry trends. The position is also responsible for supporting the planning and oversight of physical inventories in all store locations biannually.

Responsibilities

Build and execute a cohesive merchandise protection strategy to drive improvement in shortage results:

  • Reduce inventory shortage by developing, implementing, and managing shortage control pilots, initiatives, and strategies.

  • Assess current processes and operations to ensure existing EAS technology is being leveraged.

  • Develop a consistent and simplified approach to EAS technology to reduce unnecessary EAS supply expense

  • Assist in design and implementation of a proactive approach to EAS supply ordering.

  • Create and drive solution to eliminate movement of tags between stores.

  • Identify areas of EAS tag pollution through collaboration with Procurement, Store Operations, and other key stakeholders to improve how and what we buy.

  • Spearhead and maintain a front-end and back-end storage process for EAS equipment and address reverse logistics of EAS tags from front-end to back-of-house.

  • Build strong partnerships with Store Operations, Procurement, Finance, Store Innovation, Merchants, PIC, etc. tosecure support, implement recommendations in a fast-paced environment, and drive best-in-class operational execution consistently across all store locations.

  • Manage ad-hoc supply requests from the field for existing portfolio locations, as well as planned orders for new stores and relocations, while staying within annual supply OpEx and CapEx budgets.

  • Clearly scope and track projects, develop and assign work streams, maintain a steady pace, and ensure reliable delivery.

Develop and lead new device initiatives

  • Generate and identify innovative ideas and solutions to protect our merchandise via emerging technologies and by staying ahead of industry trends through research, networking, professional retail organization memberships, etc.

  • Understand how Burlington’s merchandise protection strategies compare to those of our retail competitors.

  • Institute best practices for piloting shortage control initiatives by engaging Strategy to help create test store list, priming Procurement to pinpoint a variety of comparable EAS devices and negotiate favorable pricing and contract terms, collaborating with Store Operations to measure and/or verify EAS tagging labor standards, etc.

  • Propose EAS investments as necessary through ROI calculations and business cases.

  • Provide business case writing expertise and lead the compilation and review of business case documents.

Support EAS tagging optimization initiatives:

  • Work closely with Shortage Control colleagues to analyze physical inventory results to assess merchandise categories and/or markets with opportunities for improvement.

  • Support analysis of shortage by price point reporting to identify and implement opportunities for enhanced tagging in the highest shortage classes and, conversely, the removal of tagging standards from low shortage classes to optimize both supply and labor spend.

Support biannual physical inventory, reconciliation, and reporting:

  • Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of the biannual physical inventories.

  • Work cross-functionally with Finance, Supply Chain, Stores, and Merchant organizations to complete annual inventory reconciliation.

  • Manage and enhance record-keeping and documentation for completed inventory counts to drive best-in-class inventory practices with a high commitment to excellence.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Engineering, or an applicable field of study required.

  • Minimum 5 - 7 years of experience in retail Shortage Control, Asset Protection, and/or Operations with an emphasis on project management.

  • Experience with financial analysis and/or accounting preferred.

  • Strong analytical and project management skills.

  • Ability to analyze results, develop conclusions, and implement strategies based on analysis, experience, competitive shopping, and innovation/technology research.

  • Possess excellent presentation skills, both verbal and written
