The Senior Internal Auditor will be responsible for leading annual Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) assessment procedures and operational internal audit projects related to business and IT processes throughout the organization. The Senior Internal Auditor will play a key role in all phases of the internal audit project lifecycle, including planning, scoping, fieldwork execution, and reporting. The ideal candidate demonstrates professional curiosity, has a continuous improvement mindset, and possesses the desire/aptitude to rapidly learn new skills while being committed to working with business partners to develop cost-effective and innovative solutions to improve processes and controls.

Burlington’s Internal Audit (IA) team partners with business units by performing risk-based projects year-round to help understand, assess, and manage risks across the company. The Internal Audit team is a diverse group looking for analytical thinkers, motivated self-starters and problem-solvers that have a strong desire to grow their careers. In addition, Internal Audit promotes a culture of integrity, encourages professional development, and provides career path options both within the IA department and into Burlington's various business units.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and execute assigned internal audit project, including Internal Controls SOX testing, of varying complexity and scope covering financial, operational, strategic, technology and/or compliance risks.

  • Analyze business process and information technology controls applying problem-solving methods and data analysis to identify and recommend process improvements.

  • Identify innovative data analytic approachesto driveaudit effectiveness and efficiency with technology.

  • Assess the impact of observations and present them in a persuasive and confident manner while writing clear, concise, and meaningful reports and/or presentations.

  • Work with management to develop action plans to remediate findings and address areas for improvement and track corrective actions through to completion.

  • Ensure all assigned projects are thoughtfully planned and executed within defined timeframes, fieldwork is properly conducted and completed in accordance with the audit plan, and project reports are issued timely and with high quality.

  • Continually work with various levels of Company management to keep management informed of engagement status and critical issues as they arise.

  • Contribute to the operation and management of the IA Department.

  • Proactively develop business partnerships and maintain a presence with management to understand business strategies, challenges, and risks.

  • Stay current on changing rules and regulations both in the industry and profession and help Company management, as necessary.

  • Pursue continuous professional development through training, certification(s), and education, and share with team members to develop the overall team.

  • Out-of-town travel less than 5%.

Educational, Experience, and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business, data analytics, or IT/MIS (management information systems) related field with solid academic credentials.

  • 3-5 years related professional experience in combination of public accounting, consulting, corporate accounting, IT and/or internal audit with industry experience (retail, consumer business) preferred.

  • Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).

  • Progress towards relevant professional certification CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, PMP preferred.

  • Experience with data analytic and visualization tools (i.e., IDEA, ACL, PowerBI, Tableau) a plus

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communications, willingness to assist in areas outside of direct assignments when necessary, and commitment to self-improvement and completion of team objectives.

  • Strong executive presence and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain management relationships.
