This position addresses daily issues as it relates to assisting departments they support (which includes booking journal entries, calculation of accruals, researching data, providing direction as to Burlington’s accounting policies). Majority of the workload is on a monthly cycle. Job supports fiscal closings and account reconciliations which directly impact financial statements. Quarterly closes include assisting auditors by preparing analysis and obtaining supporting documentation.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Perform monthly close and analysis for financial accounting. Prepare journal entries and accrual calculations. Develop schedules and reports to conduct variance analysis, investigate variances and analyze drivers. Ensures data integrity by identifying errors/trends in accounting data to improve accuracy, timeliness and general flow of accounting data.
Prepare work papers and roll forwards, supporting schedules and documentation to support month end close.
Assist functional areas by providing data, aid in preparation of monthly journal entries, provide guidance on proper coding of invoices and allocation of costs and maintaining proper accounting policies.
Partner with FP&A and Business Support to determine how plans/forecasts are calculated. Analyze and review forecast to actual results on both consolidated level and by location and department. Prepare summarized variance explanations.
Respond promptly and correctly to inquiries from internal and external auditors.
Assist with routine and ad-hoc reporting.
Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting preferred. 0-3 years experience in an accounting role. Proficiency in Excel and Accounting/Financial Systems experience preferred. Basic knowledge of accounting processes, procedures, and financial statements desired. Strong Analytical skills helpful. Experience with Oracle Financial and/or Cognos a big plus.
