The Tax Supervisor is primarily responsible for ensuring the organization’s compliance with all indirect taxes (e.g., Sales Tax, use and misc etc). Provide audit, research and analysis of the indirect organization’s taxes. This is a multi-incumbent position, focusing on a specific indirect taxes. Supervise the Tax Analysts in their function.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage sales and use tax audits and tax liabilities, respond to notices, conduct research and ensures accuracy . Interaction with tax auditors, responsible for all aspects of the sales and use audits. This includes creating and maintaining spreadsheets, researching issues, conducting reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, and providing explanations.
Responsible for indirect tax compliance- review information provided to the outsourced specialist to prepare the sales, use and misc. tax returns. Review and approve the monthly, quarterly, and annual sales & use, and other transactional tax filings and payments. Analyze and prepare monthly tax payable reconciliations and adjusting journal entries. Prepare or assist in thepreparation of schedules to be provided to the internal and external auditors.
Work with the IT business counterparts to maintain tax rates for all locations and ensure the proper taxability of merchandise sold. Work with the Buyers to ensure the correct codes are applied to the merchandise for proper tax determination to adhere to the sales/use tax laws and regulations.
Supervise, lead, train and mentor staff.
Scope and Impact: Ensure tax compliance for the organization in sales/use and misc tax areas. Interact with internal departments across the organization. Externally interact with vendors, auditors and tax agencies. Accuracy and diligence impact the organization’s tax liability. Timeliness and professional handling of issues and audits representing the organization.
Education: Bachelor’s or MDA Degree or equivalent experience (business, finance, tax, accounting preferred)
Experience: 3-5 years sales tax experience
Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Proficient in department’s Accounting/Financial Systems (Oracle) and tax returns
Tax knowledge, including compliance, research, process, procedures
Solid analysis, research and audit skills
Attention to detail and accuracy
Effective time management – manages multiple tasks; organized; on top of time sensitive tasks
Handles transactions with vendors and auditors professionally and efficiently. Resolves issues quickly and effectively
Effectively communicates with management and peers
Meets needs of customers (external, internal and team members)
Receives guidance and moderate direction
Demonstrates organization skills and ability to improve processes
