Burlington Vice President, Store Initiatives and Profitability in Burlington, New Jersey

Overview

The Vice President of Store Initiatives and Profitability is responsible for driving sales, developing and driving strategic store initiatives, planning and controlling store expense for all stores (and selected corporate departments), and championing the company’s Profit Improvement strategy across the store and related support pyramids. Must demonstrate an understanding of the stores and their challenges; must consistently seek ways to help them get sales and to simplify their work.

The Store Initiatives team drives strategy and execution of store initiatives and has significant impact on store workload and simplification/improvement of store operations and processes. Partnerships with key corporate stakeholders, territory and regional field management along with the entire Store Operations team are critical to the success of this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive sales by improving the in-store shopping experience, providing staffing levels that meet the needs of the customer and the business and allocating expenses to support sales-getting opportunities

  • Develop and lead the strategy for Store Operations initiatives

  • Drive consistency, supporting the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs)

  • Work with Field Leadership and Store Management team to identify areas of opportunity and generate new ideas to simplify / reduce work and improve productivity in the stores and field. Individual will think outside the box and look at the market to identify best practices

  • Create annual expense plans, balancing support for all key strategic initiatives with financial objectives

  • Review and react quickly to trends; allocate expenses to most effectively drive sales and improve the customer experience.

  • Remain agile and flexible; make adjustments as necessary to consistently achieve agreed-upon financial objectives while supporting sales

  • Collaborate and communicate with field leadership and finance stakeholders to ensure their alignment with plans and initiatives

  • Lead the efforts to achieve established Profit Improvement (PIC) goals for the Customer Experience pyramid

  • Collaborate with stores pyramid, the Strategy Team, Corporate SVPs and their teams to surface ideas regularly, maintain high awareness and get the right projects completed quickly; leverage PIC team support

  • Lead and participate in various business-driving initiatives with corporate and field stakeholders; champion the customer and ensure their experience is a priority in making strategic decisions

  • Be an ambassador of Our Burlington and model core values; develop and retain top talent

  • Improve associate engagement by soliciting feedback and addressing opportunities

Experience & Requirements:

  • 10+ years of retail experience in appropriately related function

  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the stores, and constantly seek ways to simplify work and help the stores get more sales

  • Strategic thinker with a vision for the team’s overall business impact

  • Agile and adaptable – able to drive multiple, diverse initiatives simultaneously

  • Strong customer orientation

  • Highly results oriented with a strong sense of urgency

  • Ability to plan effectively, reprioritize appropriately to realize desired outcomes

  • Leads a team through coaching, motivation and accountability

  • Composure under pressure

  • Critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills

  • Networking with key partners to drive the business through collaborate initiatives

  • Subject matter expert in budgeting and workforce management platforms

  • Experience with Profit Improvement initiatives

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Ability to travel regularly to store locations required

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
