The Director Inbound Logistics and Carrier Management is the key thought leader and inbound transportation support to the SVP Global Logistics in developing strategies to support Burlington’s ability to receipt vendor merchandise. The Director is responsible for identifying, developing, and growing strategic carrier partnerships across the logistics space . The Director also leads Burlington’s efforts to procure and enable national and regional carrier programs, design and implement best-in-class performance management systems and develop new strategic alternatives to support Burlington’s growth. They will proactively interface with all key functional business areas including supply chain, finance, procurement, logistics, vendor relations, merchants, and store operations.

The Director will be responsible for:

  • Manage the domestic inbound transportation/routing process to ensure capacity, service, and cost commitments are met to support business objectives. Develop strategies and anticipate trends that enable inbound/outbound network flows, carrier agreements, cost, and service.

  • Develop, implement and manage best practices in relation to freight audit, payment, claims administration, transportation data and analytics.

  • Strategize with the SVP and Procurement team to design and lead regular RFP processes for inbound and outbound transportation, pool points and other specialized services resulting in best-in-class contractual agreements.

  • Lead strategic carrier management development planning with the Logistics leadership team to achieve transportation service and cost goals.

  • Provide required analytics/reporting to measure performance including KPI’s and scorecards for Logistics function

  • Manage ongoing partnerships with carriers; design appropriate KPI’s; analyze results and conduct regular performance reviews.

  • Coach and lead direct reports in their development to ensure growth to support succession planning strategies; team will be 3 direct reports and 17 indirect reports

Our ideal candidate will have a f our-year degree with a supply chain/logistics degree preferred and 8-10 years of experience in transportation/supply chain and 3 years leading and managing a successful transportation function.

  • Deep logistics/transportation experience from working at leading retail companies.

  • Proven track record with progression of leadership positions in supply chain, logistics or transportation, specifically developing and managing successful carrier/vendor programs.

  • Experience in developing best practices as it relates to freight payment/audit function.

  • Experience in utilization and operation of TMS (Manhattan preferred, not required)

  • Proven track record and success driving transportation productivity and customer service.

  • Demonstrated experience and success developing and implementing high service/cost competitive carrier network.

  • Experience establishing key performance indicator metrics to benchmark/track performance.
